Conservation of energy by substituting conventional energy (electricity) to non conventional energy ( solar) at Magarpatta City, one of the biggest housing complexes in India covering over 475 acres. Magarpatta city is situated off Solapur Road at Hadapsar, Pune.
Magarpatta city has installed solar water heating system to provide hot water to the families living in the apartments/ bunglows/ row houses. The installation is one of the biggest residential solar water heating system in Asia. Magarpatta
SOLAR WATER HEATING SYSTEM.
The capacity is worked out taking the following parameters into consideration.
a) The area available on the terrace of each building.
b) Total number of flats in each building.
c) The systems are split as per number of wings in the building for equitable distribution of hot water.
d) As per normal utility and consumption pattern of 25 ltrs per person and taking into consideration 5 persons per flat the capacity considered is 125 ltrs per flat.
On any normal sunny day the system will generate hot water of 5.92 lakh litres per day (as on 31.03.08)
The working of solar water heating system is based on the principles of black body absorption & Heat Transfer. The black surface of the collector absorbs the heat from the solar radiation and transfers it to the water passing through the copper tubes of the absorber panel. Hot water being lighter than cold water rises to the top of the collector and into the hot water tank. This cycle goes on during hours of sunshine (usually between 10 am to 4 pm). At the end of the day the tank is full of hot water at designed temperature.
1) Social Aspect :
a) To show concern for the environment by using natural energy available with us.
b) To use as much natural energy as possible to promote environmental protection.
c) To act as a hedge against rises in electricity bills to the customers of Magarpatta City.
2) Health Aspect :
It is the commitment of Magarpatta city to provide to their customers a clean, free of pollutants & a green environment & by installing solar water heating system we ensure it.
3) Environmental Aspect :
Solar Water Heating System is eco-friendly. It does not emit any toxic, gases like Carbon dioxide & Sulpher dioxide. Renewable energy can be a cushion to secure emission limits of toxic gases.
4) Economic Aspect :
Apart from routine maintenance cost, renewable energy equipment’s use fuel which is abundant in nature & free of cost. We need not worry about rise in fuel cost from time to time.
Annual Savings in Electricity : 95.63 Lacs KwH
Annual savings in rupees : 3.83 Crore
Annual prevention of toxic gases like CO, CO2 , SO2 : 8890 tonnes
It is a project that demonstrates how energy (unproductive) can be saved & the same can be used for some other useful infrastructure (productive) projects.
How we got the order
Magarpatta township , construction and development co.ltd.(MTDC) had proposed the idea of Magarpatta city. The initiators found a trustworthy partners in BIPIN… , one of the leading manufacturers of SWHS in Indis, who guaranteed on time deliveries, had technical infrastructure to cater for such magnitude and also to ensure that the technical personnel meet international standards . we also promised to provide trained manpower to ensure 24/7 maintenance of solar water heating systems for maintenance. Planning went goes into ordering , to ensure raw material is in sufficient stock for punctual and cheaper manufacturing.
1.09.2001- 31.03.2010
At the end of the project-
No. Of Buildings- 566 (includes flats, bungalow, rowhouses)
Flats + Bungalow + row houses = 3350
Early savings in KWh- 14548447
Early savings in Rs.- 58193698
Saving of carbon emission tones / year-25548.75
